Background
From the Daily News 16th December 2011
A convicted paedophile who broke the rules within hours of being freed from jail was yesterday sent back. Bryan Joseph Wilson, 48, appeared before Judge Allan Roberts in the New Plymouth District Court facing four charges of breaching his release conditions. Wilson pleaded guilty to the charges. Wilson was released on June 22 after serving eight months in jail for previous breaches of release conditions. He was picked up by his ex-partner, who took him to catch up with some old friends.
There were two 14-year-old girls at the house they visited, which was an offence against the rules of his release, not to mix with people under the age of 16 unless supervised by an approved adult. Wilson had been imprisoned for two years in August 2009 for sexual connection with a young person aged between 12 and 16. In 2005 he had been convicted on two charges of indecently assaulting a female. Moving house without the approval of the probation service in July also broke the rules.
Wilson again flouted the rules by attending his daughter's 16th birthday party in September and was seen by a police officer at a house in November where six young children were present. His former partner dobbed him in after the relationship ended. Defence lawyer Kylie Pascoe said while the breaches appeared blatant on all occasions other adults, who were aware of Wilson's convictions, were around. Judge Roberts noted Wilson had been assessed as having a high risk of reoffending and sentenced him to six months imprisonment on each breach – to be served concurrently.
From the Daily News 8th August 2009
NEW PLYMOUTH truck driver Bryan Joseph Wilson has been jailed for two years for having sex with a girl under 16. Wilson, 46, had admitted a single charge of unlawful sexual connection of a girl aged between 12 and 16 when DNA samples returned overwhelming evidence against him. Crown prosecutor Tim Walls told the court it took Wilson 10 months to plead guilty and the plea was only entered after the DNA evidence returned. In handing down sentence, Judge Ongley said he took into account Wilson's previous sexual offending that included convictions in 2005 for indecent assault.
