Waenga broke into the woman's home and subjected her to hours of terror. The woman, who lived alone, was in the garden and when she came into the house, Waenga, wearing a pillow case over his head, punched her several times, sexually assaulted her, and after she put up a fight threatened to kill her. He tied her to a chair, threatened her with a knife, sexually assaulted her and punched her again. Waenga thankfully lost an appeal against this sentence in October 1991
