A 21-year-old man who raped a 91-year-old Westport woman was sentenced yesterday to 15 years imprisonment when he appeared in the High Court at Christchurch. Tristan Lee Tamati had pleaded guilty to three charges of rape, two of sodomy, two of aggravated robbery, unlawful sexual connection and possession of cannabis in Westport on February 11. Counsel for the defence, Doug Taffs, said Tamati had been heavily under the influence of alcohol and drugs when he committed the offences and he had little recollection of them.
