From the Manawatu Standard 17th December 2009
A former teacher and ACT Party candidate has lost his bid to appeal his 24
convictions on 24 child pornography charges. Malcolm Albert Spark, of Kaiapoi
in North Canterbury, was sentenced to 2 years 6 months prison in April after being
found guilty by a jury following a three-day trial in Christchurch District
Court in March. The jury convicted him on all the charges: 10 counts of making
an objectionable publication and 14 counts of knowingly possessing an
objectionable publication. The publications related to child sexual
exploitation. Spark had taken part in online chats with girls aged from nine to
15 in 2005, which led to him obtaining images which he put with a summary of
what he had learned about the girls during the chats on Word documents, which
were found on his computer.
