Background
The Auckland High Court was told that Shaw, a serial paedophile and repeat offender, would prey on his victims by joining in their games, giving them money, lollies and toys. He would also watch television and videos with the victims. Shaw performed fellatio with three different boys and committed other gross indecencies with the girls including a 9 year old girl and an 8 year old girl. A probation report noted Shaw's arrogance, lack of remorse or contrition. Despite previously undergoing treatment for his sexual offending Shaw reoffended. A psychologist said there is a "substantial risk" Shaw would commit further offences against young children if he was released back into the community.
