Background
The victim and Sattler were second cousins. Sattler's brother had a 21 birthday party in Whakatane. The victim had visited from Auckland. After the victim left the party in the early hours of the morning she walked back to a caravan where she was sleeping in. Sensing she was not being followed she got to the caravan. However she was not able to get into the caravan because it was locked. She went back to the party to get the key. At that point Sattler raped her.
