An Ohai man found guilty of raping an 18-year-old woman at his home nearly two years ago was yesterday sentenced to nine years' jail. Tony Arthur Samson, 56, appeared for sentence in the Invercargill District Court after a jury found him guilty in October of raping the woman on May 12, 2009, and sexually violating her by digital penetration. Judge Kevin Phillips said Samson had given the woman "a concoction" of alcohol. Defence lawyer Hugo Young said Samson was respected in his community and was supported in court by his wife.
