AN UNEMPLOYED Waitara man was remanded in custody yesterday after pleading guilty to sex offences involving a young girl.

Graham Bruce Russo (43) pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting a girl under the age of 12, inducing her to perform an indecent act on him and unlawful sexual connection with her, and was remanded until September 19 for sentencing. Police prosecutor Sergeant Richard Doherty told Judge C. J. Harding in the New Plymouth District Court yesterday that the offences had occurred in the early 1980s when the complainant was aged between five and eight.

Mr Doherty said that when police questioned Russo about the incidents he had admitted abusing the girl from the time she was two until she was 12-years-old. Judge Harding refused bail for Russo.
