Background
Found guilty in March 2003 by a Tauranga jury of sexually violating a 13 year old boy. Paynter, an Opotiki office manager, had gone to a room where the victim was sleeping and began sexually violating him. The boy woke up and pushed him away. Paynter had a history of "helping out" around Opotiki at locations where young people gathered, including the local movie theatre. Had been involved in the Opotiki Community Theatre Trust prior to the offence.
