Background
The group rape was compared in seriousness to the Ambury Park Mongrel Mob gang rape in 1986. The attack involved the use of a bottle to violate the complainant, whose car had broken down. She knew the three Mangere men and thought she was safe when they stopped to offer help. However they took her to a reserve where they took turns to rape her. The police surgeon described the victims internal injuries from the rape as a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10.
