The indecent assault of a young girl resulted in a "three strikes" warning and a jail sentenced of two years and two months for Paul Michael MacNee (33), unemployed. Judge Paul Kellar imposed the penalty in the Dunedian District Court on Monday when MacNee appeared on a conviction for indecentlu\y assaulting a girl aged under 12 over three years.

Reviewing the facts, the judge said MacNee touched the victim on the outside of her clothing, in the vginal area, on numerous occasions when he was alone with her. The offending must have started when the girl was aged only 2-3 and continued until she was aged 5 or 6. It led to sexualised behaviour in the victim and the discovery of what MacNee had been doing to her.

Counsel Jim Large submitted MacNee said he was remorseful and wanted to apologise. Judge Kellar was of the view MacNee showed no remorse beyond that which he expressed through counsel.
