Sentenced to six years six months in March 2000
Background
From a Christchurch Press story
A 34-year-old man who sodomised an 18-year-old has been jailed for 6 years 6 months by Judge Colin Doherty in the Christchurch District Court. The victim now feared he had contracted a sexually transmitted disease, the court was told yesterday. Trevor John Leigh, unemployed, pleaded guilty last month to sexual violation, committed on February 11.
The judge said there was no consent for the indecent acts performed on the victim, who felt he could not stop Leigh because of his greater strength. The victim previously had been subjected to sexual abuse, and Leigh's offending worsened his situation. The complainant had been affected by alcohol at the time. Counsel Des Boyle said Leigh regretted his actions. He had also been drinking that night, and remembered nothing of the offence. Representing the Crown, Anna Fox said the victim had a very real concern that he had contracted a sexually transmitted disease, or worse, HIV.
