In the Auckland High Court, Justice Temm said in his sentencing remarks "this little girl, only six or seven was subjected to your indecencies and your sexual abuse for many months, how many times we do not know. You were her teacher, you were her religious instructor, you were a friend of her father. You were held in respect by those around you and by the children put into your care, and I have no doubt at all the children obeyed you implicitly, so you could take advantage of this little girl more easily."
