Background
NZ Herald story here
From that story
The charge faced by Wilson arose from two men, Gary Isherwood and Michael Holdem, admitting that they had deliberately turned the schoolgirl into a drug addict. They had then forced the schoolgirl into a life of prostitution so she could pay them for her twice-a-day morphine injection. Isherwood and Holdem are now both serving eight-year prison sentences.
From the Evening Post 7th March 2000
One of the men who introduced a 14-year-old girl to morphine use and prostitution has failed in a bid to overturn his eight-year jail term. Michael Scott Holdem, of Christchurch, was refused legal aid for his appeal against sentence so the Court of Appeal decided the case on the basis of written submissions filed for him. The court's judgment last week said the girl developed hepatitis C as a result of Holdem's and another man's activities. Holdem pleaded guilty to charges of living off the earnings of prostitution, having sex with a girl under 16, and administering morphine. Justice Blanchard said Holdem maintained he'd had a secondary role but the judge was entitled to the view that it was a "team effort".
In 1995, Holdem (aged 18 years) was sentenced in the Christchurch Courts to 3 years for assaulting an 87 year old lady in here home. Whilst in prison (1995 in Rolleston Prison), he was charged with attempted rape of this lady. This charge was withdrawn and he pleaded guilty to a charge of indecent assault on her.
