Background
From the Northern Advocate 7th June 2010
A Whangarei man who sexually assaulted two young girls has been jailed for 14 years. Brian Fox, 56, earlier pleaded guilty to two charges of rape, three of indecent assault, three of unlawful sexual connection and one of permitting an indecent act on a girl. He appeared for sentencing in the Whangarei District Court on Thursday.
Judge John McDonald said that on one occasion, Fox forced a victim into oral sex before raping her. She felt she could not turn to anyone in her family for help. On another occasion, he instructed a girl to dress in lingerie before taking pictures of her. Fox gave one girl a pill and she fell asleep and upon waking up, she found him performing oral sex on her.
Crown prosecutor Anna Patterson asked the court to impose a minimum non-parole term. He still utterly denied doing anything wrong, Ms Patterson said. "If you've got that kind of an attitude, then you've got someone who is a danger to the community when he gets out," she said. Defence lawyer Grant Anson said his client was willing to engage in counselling. Judge McDonald said one of the victims had difficulty forming and maintaining relationships because of what Fox had done to her.
