The victim was walking on a city street in the late afternoon when Cunniffe made a bizarre attempt to rape her. She was grabbed, pulled to the ground and punched in the face. She had not long before undergone surgery and the attack caused internal injuries requiring further surgery. One of her hands and an eye were also injured.
