From Taranaki Daily News story Jan 20th 2006
A 33-YEAR-OLD New Plymouth man who had a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl, and committed an indecent act on her younger sister, was sent to jail yesterday. In the New Plymouth District Court, Sean Danzelle Connor was told his offending was arrogant, controlling, and had all the hallmarks of sexual gratification.
He was sentenced on one charge of indecent assault with the 14- year-old, three representative charges of sexual connection with her, and two charges of committing an indecent act on her 13-year old sister. Connor was 32 when he began a relationship with the 14-year-old, after meeting at a dairy where she worked, the court heard. He tried to discourage the victim from coming to his flat but she persisted, and a sexual relationship began in June last year.
During a visit to Connor's house on August 21, the victim brought her 13-year-old sister. Connor was play fighting with the younger girl when he put his hand in her pants, in front of the older sister. The 13-year-old ran off crying, and told her mother.
Judge Louis Bidois said Connor's offending had made a huge impact on the younger sister, and caused problems in the family. He acknowledged Connor was in a consensual relationship with the 14- year-old, but a statement from the victim said it had been full-on from the start. The older sister was confused about her feelings towards Connor, and was mixed up over the treatment of her younger sister.
Connor was sent to jail for 16 months and six weeks for his offending. He was not allowed contact with the victim, without the consent of his probation officer, or to have contact with children under 16 unless he was supervised by an adult.
