Background
Police news release here here
Displayed no remorse or any insight into his offending. Had continued to deny guilt, and continues to show a cold callous attitude towards the victim. Justice Gendall said there were no mitigating factors, and he was not entitled to credit for his guilty plea, which would have avoided trauma of the victim returning back here to give evidence, with the offender knowing the evidence against him is overwhelming. The most aggravating factor the judge said is that Clarken was on bail for firearms and serious drugs charges. The probation officer assesses him at being a "high risk" of reoffending given his absence of remorse, his anti-social behaviour, his use of violence, threats and intimidation, his extensive history of drug and alcohol abuse and his propensity for violence.
