Former Wellington retaurateur Nickolas Chronis was jailed for 9 and a half years when he appeared for sentence in Wellington District Court after being convicted of sexually attacking three of his waitresses.

Earlier this month a jury found Chronis, 51, of Miramar, guilty of one charge of rape, one of kidnapping, and four charges of indecent assault. The charges related to waitresses who worked in his inner city restaurant from 1992 to 1998. The name of the restaurant has been permanently suppressed. The waitresses were aged 18, 19, and 22 years at the time.
