A "debased voyeur" was part of a chain involved in the sexual exploitation of youngchildren, the Christchurch District Court has been told. Derek Raymond Bunn, 44, a former Telecom employee, used his computer to download hundreds of "disgusting" images involving children engaged in sexual activities andtraded them for others in an Internet chat room specialising in pedophilia images.
Judge Graeme Noble said that if not for "debased voyeurs" like Bunn, those who take"disgusting" pictures of the sexual exploitation of young children would have nobody to trade them with. "I've seen samples of these images and there can be little that is more debasing and degrading of children," he said.

A man on trial for assault with a weapon behaved aggressively towards a youth because he could not stand the boy's continual mistreatment of his mother, the defence has contended in the Christchurch District Court. Derek Raymond Bunn, 44, denies charges of assault with a weapon, assault, and threatening to kill. The charges arose from an incident on January 28 when Bunn allegedly assaulted the youth, who cannot be named because of his age, after becoming incensed at the way the boy treated his mother.
The Crown alleges Bunn threatened to kill the boy, punched him in the face, then pulled out a pocketknife. During the altercation the boy's hand was cut, needing medical treatment.

A middle-aged man's attack on a youth who repeatedly mistreated his mother was "understandable in human terms", Judge Murray Abbott said during sentencing in the Christchurch District Court yesterday. Earlier in the day, a jury found Derek Raymond Bunn, 44, guilty of assault, and not guilty of two charges of assault with a weapon and threatening to kill. Judge Abbott sentenced Bunn to three months periodic detention.

A child pornography trader, repeat offender Derek Raymond Bunn, has been told he should prepare for a life behind bars. In the Christchurch District Court, Bunn, 48, admitted charges of mailing an objectionable publication, and possessing an objectionable publication. Bunn was remanded on bail to later this month for sentence, but was told by Judge Stephen Erber that jail was inevitable. Prosecutor Pip Currie said a Department of Internal Affairs inspector checking internet chat channels came across a New Zealander using the nickname NewEmma.

A child pornography trader is behind bars after being caught mailing an obscene picture of nude children over the Internet. Derek Raymond Bunn, 48, was jailed for four months by Judge Phil Moran in the Christchurch District Court after admitting charges of mailing an objectionable publication and possessing an objectionable publication. The judge said aggravating the case was that Bunn had already offended similarly before, when he received a sentence of supervision. It had not worked, and the sentencing objectives this time had to be denunciation and deterrence.
