Sentenced to six years in September 2008
Background
From Waikato Times Saturday, 6th September 2008
A Huntly man who subjected his rape victim to more than four hours' of sexual abuse has been jailed for six years.
Joshua Ruatekaumatahi Baker, 20, appeared in Hamilton District Court for sentencing yesterday after earlier pleading guilty to a charge of sexual violation by rape and unlawful sexual connection.
The court heard that on July 15 last year, Baker repeatedly raped his victim, who was under 16, during a four to five hour ordeal. Following the rape Baker warned his victim not to tell anyone. He returned to the girl's room two weeks later, but the girl alerted family members.
Crown prosecutor Jacinda Foster said the girl continued to be affected by the attack and noted a pre-sentence report which indicated a "striking absence of remorse" from Baker. Judge Joanna Maze acknowledged a letter from Baker expressing remorse and sentenced him to six years' jail.
