Background
Adams, a Christchurch pastor, blackmailed his victims into complying with his wishes. The offending occurred while Adams was running a halfway house for troubled teenagers. The judge, Justice Holland, said it was hard to imagine a more vicious or deliberate example of sexual depravity. He said he doubted he had ever felt more compassion for victims of sexual abuse.
