This quote clearly illustrates what we up against - the level of arrogance is breathtaking. The person concerned is a private individual, so shall remain anonymous, were they a public figure we would name them.

The problem with victims is that they often want vengeance - "eye for
eye"type of rubbish.
The whole point of our justice system (for all it's faults) is that it
tries to remove biased participation from the process (whether it be the
victims, or the offenders mother).
Anything else and you can get an even less balanced system than we
already have..
Keep the (understandably) overwrought out of the criminal process is
what I say..
Let them stay away and eat cake.
