Sensible Sentencing Trust
We have tried to make this site as accessible as possible for the visually impaired and disabled users.
All images have text alternates (ALT attributes)
All text uses relative font sizes so text can be enlarged or reduced using the text size options available in Web Browsers.
You might have noticed some of the navigation links have a number after them, well thats because they have got access keys, so you can use the site without a mouse, see below
Page formatting is done with CSS not tables, and image-replacement techniques have been used extensively to ensure that the semantic structure of the information is preserved
This site follows World Wide Web and NZ E-Government accessibility guidelines
Using the site without a mouse
To get around the Sensible Sentencing site without a mouse we have shortcut keys that will take you to commonly used pages such as the home page (1) and the search function (4). We've also stuck in a Skip Navigation Link ([) for anybody out there using a screen reader.
To use these shortcut keys hold down the ALT key (PC) or CONTROL key (Apple Macintosh) and then one of the keys in the table below. In some browsers you may have to press enter to confirm your choice. In the Opera 7 browser press Shift-Esc, release those keys, and then press your chosen access key.
|1||The Home page (index.htm)|
|0||A reference list of accessibility keys (this page)|
|[||Bypass the navigation and go to the main content of your current page|
|4||Go to the search box at the top of your current page|
|3||The Sitemap where you can find where we've put everything|
Use of text on this site
Most navigation elements are plain text and we have provided text alternatives to graphics on the site.
Those with poor sight may be able to increase the size of the text on screen, see instructions below
|Browser||How to increase text size|
|Internet Explorer||Select the 'View' menu, then 'Text Size', and then your chosen size (or if you have a mouse wheel simply hold down CTRL and roll the mouse wheel to alter the text size.|
|Netscape 6, Mozilla||Hold down CTRL and press + or - to alter the text size.|
Page load times
We tried to make sure most pages are short and will load quickly. Most pages are less than 30K and should load in under 9 seconds using a 28k modem. However some of them just got a bit out of hand....
All browsers are supported except versions 3, 4 of Netscape which are not standards compliant, in which case you will see all the information in plain, unformatted pages.
