escalating violence in our community
Become a member of the
Sensible Sentencing Trust
With the existing concurrent sentencing offenders are effectively receiving a " bulk discount" for multiple offences thus encouraging repeat offending.
Example 1 :
Ese Junior Falealii pleaded guilty to 11 offences and was sentenced as follows:
He is eligible for parole after 17 YEARS !! That is a BULK DISCOUNT
Example 2 :
Timothy Taylor: Found guilty of murdering Lisa Blakie
Taylor was serving a 10 year sentence for two armed robberies + kidnapping + car conversion a the time he was convicted of Lisa Blakies murder.
The LIFE sentence he received for Lisa's murder is to be served concurrently, effectively meaning he will serve 3 years for her murder.
Taylor is now facing other serious charges
If you do the crime - you do the time - ALL OF IT!!
Concurrent Sentencing should be abolished and replaced with Cumulative Sentencing. This coupled with parole to be earned at the end of a judge given sentence would be a start in removing that tiny proportion of our community, which commits the majority of our crime.
By retaining repeat and multiple offence criminals in our prisons for longer periods through cumulative sentencing we will within a short period of time reduce our crime rate, make our community safer and save our country money. Yes it costs in excess of $50,000 to keep a prisoner in jail for a year but consider the savings.
