I have been involved with victims of Homicide since the brutal rape and murder of Kylie Smith of Owaka in 1991. After Kylie's murder we presented a petition to parliament calling for harsher penalties for all premeditated brutal murderers. The petition was signed by thousands of grass roots New Zealanders who wanted a fairer Justice System. We then formed a group called Family and Friends of Murder Victims and I have been involved ever since then - lobbying for changes in our laws. Sensible Sentencing has achieved so much in their time and it is a privilege to help them push for more law changes which will see victims of homicide treated with greater respect and dignity and justice than they receive today.
