Sensible Sentencing Trust
(11th December 2008)
The Sensible Sentencing Trust had an Election wish list of 15 policy requests 13 of which will be implemented by the new Government.
Trust Spokesman Garth McVicar said he was aware some commentators were saying the Trust had achieved its objective and should now shut its doors.
McVicar said New Zealand s Justice System had become a sham a total charade to advance a criminal friendly agenda, but that deception had now been exposed.
"The new Bail and Parole laws in fact new legislation right across the Justice sector including prisons will be implemented to ensure that the safety of law abiding, hard working citizens comes before the so-called Rights of the scumbags who commit the crime.
We are being labeled as New Zealand s most successful lobby group whether that is right or wrong is irrelevant obviously we are ecstatic but the way we see it is the job is only partly done.
The day of reckoning has come but legislation alone will not stop the violent crime epidemic currently sweeping the country that will require a total change of culture.
A complete rethink about the way we bring up and educate young people. A complete rethink of the values we as a nation want to live with and the boundaries and consequences our society wishes to adhere to.
We are very grateful to the thousands of New Zealanders who have backed us supported us and made the Sensible Sentencing journey possible.
Regards,
Garth McVicar
National Spokesperson,
Sensible Sentencing Trust.
