VIOLENCE AND BULLYING NATURAL OUTCOME OF PC CULTURE

The escalation of physical violence and bullying in schools is a natural outcome of the politically correct ideology that has removed boundaries and consequences from young people’s lives says the Sensible Sentencing Trust.

Trust Spokesman Garth McVicar was responding to an announcement by education Minister Chris Carter that he will today unveil his own anti-bullying package to make schools safer.

"The Minister is trying to shut the gate after the horse has bolted," said Mr McVicar. "This Minister is part of a Government that has progressively removed the boundaries from young people’s lives and introduced legislation that criminalizes parents who use a smack to discipline their children."

The Children’s Commissioner who is supporting the proposal also came in for a roasting from the SST Spokesman.

Dr. Kiro said "It appears that we do have high levels of physical and emotional bullying in New Zealand in comparison to other countries."

But Mr McVicar said Dr. Kiro’s comments were further evidence of how foolish and short-sighted her previous statements have been.

"Dr. Kiro recently said that graffiti and tagging were seen as legitimate art forms. Does she not see the link between trying to legitimize graffiti and the escalation of violence and bullying in schools?”

"It is hypocritical and deceitful of the Minister and Dr. Kiro to say they are now concerned about violence and bullying when lawlessness is a natural outcome of policies they have promoted. This is a natural outcome of the P C culture they advocate."

"Young people need boundaries and they need consequences." Mr McVicar said.

"We are now reaping the rewards of 40 years of politically correct nonsense; the seeds the liberals have sown are now being harvested."
