MCVICAR SCOOPS ANOTHER AWARD

The founder of the Sensible Sentencing Trust has been awarded Rotary New Zealand ’s highest honour.

At a ceremony last week in Hawkes Bay the Greenmeadows Rotary Club awarded Garth McVicar the Paul Harris Fellowship Award, the first time in the club’s 27 year history that a non-Rotarian had received such recognition.

Rotary Assistant Director Governor, Carol Charman, said despite not being a Rotarian Mr McVicar had displayed the Rotary ideal of “service beyond self”.

The clubs publicity director, Brian Hall, said Garth McVicar has made a considerable contribution to the New Zealand community.

"Garth and his wife Anne are primarily known for their work establishing and promoting the Sensible Sentencing Trust but thanks to their tireless dedication for victims of crime every political party has included Victims Rights in their Election manifesto."

The award caps a phenomenal rise for the Sensible Sentencing Trust which was awarded Premier Trust of the Year in 2006 and Garth McVicar as Toastmasters Communicator of the Year for 2008, the Trust has also received Community Service recognition for its work with victims of crime.

Describing himself as a cocky with a passion Garth McVicar was also placed on the list of "Most Trusted New Zealanders" and named on the Listners "Most Powerful" people.
