NO PLACE FOR CRIMINAL LOVING JUDGES

A Judge who cut jail time for two teenager home invaders has been accused of being sympathetic to the criminals at the expense of the victim.

Judge Philip Moran reduced the jail terms for Taylor Kaipo and Adam Ngahuru after he learned they were turning 18 and would serve their time in mainstream prison.

The Sensible Sentencing Trust has strongly criticized the Judge saying his sympathy for the criminals is totally out of line and sends the wrong message to home invaders and would be criminals.

Trust Spokesman Garth McVicar said home invasion was a despicable offence committed by cowards, “These two showed no remorse and no consideration for their victim, prison is the only place to ensure the community is protected from this type of low-life”.

“These offenders were scared of going to prison – so what – the time for them to consider that was before they chose to invade someone’s home and viciously assault an innocent person.”

“The victim must live with the effect this crime has had on him, these cowards tried to lie, they have showed no remorse and offered no reparation – yet the Judge has shown them mercy”.

Mr McVicar said “New Zealand already has a criminal centred touch- feely legal system that makes a mockery of the public perception of justice; Judge Moran has played right into the hands of the criminal fraternity.”
