Sensible Sentencing Trust Spokesman Garth McVicar has accepted a challenge from Green Party Justice Spokesman to front up and declare whether it is a genuine victim’s rights organization or if it has an extremist hidden agenda.
Mr. McVicar said the Sensible Sentencing Trust was holding next years Victims Rights conference in Wellington and was inviting Mr Tanczos to address the victims attending and tell them what his party intends doing for victims.
"I will put my reputation on the line Nandor, will you?"
"The Green Party did nothing to stop legislation that would have denied victims the right to attend Parole hearings, they did nothing to stop the recent amendments to the Bail Act that will put more violent offenders on the street, and they did nothing to stop convicted violent criminals being paid compensation."
"In our opinion they are part of the criminal-centred offender friendly system that has allowed New Zealand to become one of the most violent countries in the western world."
"The Sensible Sentencing Trust has exposed the shoddy treatment of victims in this country while the Green Party has done nothing but support legislation that is putting more criminals on the streets."
McVicar said the Greens sat timidly aside as this Government willfully neglected victims’ rights and ignored UN treaties.
"In our opinion the Green Party has done nothing to advance victim’s rights in New Zealand."
"We challenge you Nandor to come and stand on the stage at the Victim’s Rights conference next year and tell victims what the Greens will do for them."
"I will address the conference alongside you – lets see what the victims say"
Regards,
Garth McVicar
National Spokesperson,
Sensible Sentencing Trust.
