escalating violence in our community

(26th April 2004)
The Sensible Sentencing Trust believes that Labour is paying the price for not listening to the people.
Commenting on a recent Colmar Brunton poll showing National leading Labour, the Trust spokesman said the arrogant attitude that this government has had to the people of New Zealand is finally coming back to haunt them.
Mr McVicar said that while the Trust enjoys a constructive relationship with Justice Minister Phil Goff, there is no escaping the fact that others in the Labour Cabinet are not listening to what the people of New Zealand want regarding law and order.
Until others within the Labour Cabinet realise that New Zealanders have had enough of this whole Paralysing-Creeping evil infestation known as PC, they will need to accept the fact they will pay the ultimate price at the ballot box.
A referendum supported by 92 percent of the voters and petitions with hundreds of thousands of signatures have continually warned politicians what the community wants. Labour continues to ignore the people at their peril, said Mr McVicar.
How many times must we spell it out? New Zealanders have repeatedly told the government we want safer communities, and that our women and children must be safe on the streets and in our homes.
There are three issues New Zealanders conclusively agree on:
Mr McVicar said that the Sensible Sentencing Trust believes that the level of violence in any community is an indication of social policies gone wrong.
The PC movement is like a malignant tumour that gradually kills self-determination, motivation and inspiration, eventually dragging a country to its knees.
Political Correctness has slowly but surely destroyed individual accountability and responsibility and is responsible for the high level of crime and the ever increasing prison population that is going to cost every New Zealander dearly for many years to come.

Garth McVicar
National Spokesperson,
Sensible Sentencing Trust.
