Will we ever learn asks National Spokesman for Sensible Sentencing Trust.
The family of the 23 month old baby girl who was sexually abused has contacted Sensible Sentencing to say she fears for the safety of children living in the area where he will be released. The police have been knocking on doors in Amberly Ave, Palmerston North warning residents that this repeat sex offender will be moving into the area.
The police are obviously concerned, he has raped a six year old girl in 1989, sexually abused a baby girl in 1993 and still we let him out said Mr. McVicar.
Where are the government politicians who promised to get tough on Law and Order? Our Minister of Justice, Mr. Goff and Corrections Minister, Paul Swain talk about the safety of the community being of paramount consideration but we are not seeing that followed up with Legislation that has the clout to keep career criminals away.
The devastation these repeat offenders are causing to their victims and the wider community is unacceptable said Mr. McVicar.
Rehabilitation of these career criminals is a figment of the imagination of some by-gone era. Parliament accepts that we cannot rehabilitate a mongrel dog that mutilates children but are prepared to make excuses for a human mongrel that commits atrocities far worse.
Sensible Sentencing calls on Parliament to "Act with Urgency" to introduce retrospective legislation to stop the mayhem being caused by these repeat offenders, said Mr.McVicar.

Garth McVicar
