The Sensible Sentencing Trust are hailing the Appeal Court decision to reject outright all aspects of the appeal by the killers of pizza delivery man Michael Choy as a "win for public pressure and common sense".
When delivering the courts decision, Chief Justice Dame Sian Ellias, said while youth was a factor it was more important that the Court considered public interest and held young people accountable for their "deliberate, repetitive and organised criminal activity".
Spokesman for the Sensible Sentencing Trust Garth McVicar, said that decision and in particular the comments made by the Chief Justice were like a breath of fresh air.
It seems to us that women Judges like Dame Sian Ellias are better equipped to understand and empathise with the family and victims of these horrific violent crimes, said Mr. McVicar. This means that the politically correct movement of the last 30 years, that has progressively refused to hold criminals accountable and responsible for their actions, is now definitely on the way out.
Mr McVicar said it is a little early to say the PC movement is "Dead and Buried" but we can definitely say that the promoters of such folly took a severe blow to their misguided aspirations. Not only do we congratulate the Appeal Court, we also congratulate Michael Choy's mother, Rita Croskery, and others like her who refused to give up their fight for Justice.
Regards,
Garth McVicar
National Spokesperson,
Sensible Sentencing Trust.
