Are our judges finally listening to the people?
A sentence with teeth, a Judge with common sense and the ability to understand the issues from the Victims' point of view, all ingredients that have been sadly lacking in our Justice System in recent years, said the National Spokesperson for the Sensible Sentencing Trust.
Commenting on the sentencing of Nicholas Reekie, Mr McVicar said it was hugely satisfying to see a decent sentence given to a recidivist offender like Reekie. It was even more encouraging to hear what the Judge had to say. Judge Rhys Harrison told Reekie his offending was so bad that it was most unlikely he would ever be released back into society.
The Sensible Sentencing Trust have argued for some time now that we will need to sacrifice those criminals who cross the point of no return. Reekie is one of those and he has got what he deserved. While it could be argued that Reekie is a product of the politically correct experiment gone wrong, it is time we held these career criminals accountable and responsible for their actions. No more excuses, said Mr McVicar.

Garth McVicar
