(16th February 2002)
Garth McVicar, Convenor of the Sensible Sentencing Trust's retreat in Napier this weekend is pleased that the majority of the political parties who attended are listening to the mood of the people.
Mr McVicar says the Sentencing and Parole Reform Bill does NOT go anywhere near far enough in its' present form.
The Concerns of Victims and their families are not being listened to. Many more innocent people will be murdered as a result.
ACT's Stephen Franks, United Future's Peter Dunne and National's Wayne Mapp are all in agreement that the Bill is a slap in the face for the 92% of the population who supported the Referendum at the last election.
Thank you
Regards,
Garth McVicar
National Spokesperson,
Sensible Sentencing Trust.
