Background
From the Southland Times 05/01/2006
Dwane Marcel Wood, 33, fisherman, admitted assaulting the victim on December 9. Police prosecutor Sergeant Sue Evans said during the attack Wood started to strangle the woman until she had difficulty breathing. He dragged her by the hair about 5m before kicking her in the buttocks and on an ankle. He punched the victim in the face with a closed fist which made her nose bleed. Judge Walsh convicted Wood and remanded him on bail to February 3 for sentencing. He removed an order forbidding Wood to travel to the island.
From the Press ( Christchurch ) 13/07/1996
Dwane Marcel Wood, 24, a yardman, pleaded guilty to the charge of intimidation and other charges of assaulting a female, escaping from police custody, and driving with excess breath alcohol. Judge Eric Anderson convicted Wood and remanded him in custody until July 19 for sentencing. The police prosecutor, Senior Sergeant Craig Shannahan, said that on March 4, Wood followed his girlfriend to the male complainant's house. The man was a witness for the prosecution in a case against Wood.
Wood drove slowly up and down the street in front of the house, glaring at the man. The man felt threatened, and paid a taxi driver to stay with him until the police arrived. On March 19, Wood was involved in an argument with a female. He grabbed her and punched her, causing her to fall against a glass cabinet. She hit her head, and her hand went through the glass pane. Wood was thrown out of the house, but returned and assaulted her again. He grabbed her around the neck and tried to choke her. She was bruised around the head and face.
