Information from The New Zealand Paedophile and Sex Offender Index, New 2004 Edition
Crown Prosecutor Aaron Perkins asked that Whatuira be imprisoned indefinitely for the protection of the public. According to a psychiatric report presented to the Auckland High Court there was a high risk of Whatuira's reoffending. Justice Tompkins said the rape had "truly devastated" the girl's life.
