Background
NZ Herald story here
She stabbed Ms Gardiner 50 times for "narking" on her to police about a burglary.
From Dominion Post story
The fatal blows pierced the victim's rose tattoo on her chest and punctured both sides of her heart. Wepa, godmother to Ms Gardiner's son, wrapped the body in a duvet and dumped it down a bank in Otaki.
Nine months after starting her life sentence, Wepa was charged with nearly severing a fellow inmate's nipple by biting her during a cell fight at Christchurch Women's Prison.
While serving a three-month corrective training term at Arohata in the early 1990s she fled the prison but was caught by off-duty Corrections staff nearby. A prison source said she had also been caught trying to climb a fence in another unsuccessful freedom bid before her murder conviction.
Aldridge has convictions for aggravated robbery and burglary, including a $51,000 smash-and-grab crime spree that involved six burglaries in four hours in the Manawatu region. She has been in and out of prison for the past 20 years.
