The victim, who was with relatives at a South Auckland nightclub, was dancing with Tupai just before the incident. As they danced near the exit Tupai pushed her out the door, carried her down the stairs, took her outside and raped her. Tupai, at his trial, was adamant that all persons in the case owed him an apology, including the victim. He had showed no remorse.
