Background
In the Auckland District Court, Judge Perkins said Sulupo showed no remorse or insight whatsoever for his actions. When interviewed by police Sulupo told them he committed the offence because he was bored. The judge described Sulupo's actions as "sheer thuggery" and set a starting point of 10 years but reduced it by one third due to Sulupo's guilty plea, no previous convictions and young age.
