Background
Taranaki Daily News story, Oct 16, 2008
ALAN THOMAS STRAWBRIDGE has been jailed for biting his ex-girlfriend's nose after he caught her in bed with a schoolboy.
Strawbridge, 28, a labourer of New Plymouth, has assaulted his former partner after he discovered her in bed with a 17-year-old high school student in May. In the New Plymouth District Court yesterday, Strawbridge was jailed for six months on charges of assault with intent to injure and assaulting a female.
As well as biting his ex-girlfriend's nose, Strawbridge had headbutted her after he punched his replacement lover up to 40 times in the head. Defence counsel Kylie Pascoe said her client admitted his behaviour had been "absolutely appalling" and it was obvious he did not have the ability to handle the emotions he was going through at the time. Judge Allan Roberts rejected a plea from Strawbridge's mother to keep her son out of jail. He said he had no other option after Strawbridge failed to even turn up for a home detention assessment with Community Probation
