Background
From the Sunday News 18/11/2007
The aunt of RSA triple murderer William Bell was stabbed 10 times by her partner, an Auckland High Court jury heard this week. On Friday, 35-year-old Mangere beneficiary Colin William Rogers was convicted by a jury of the murder in April last year of Angela Rangihauta Tahana, 34, the mother of five young children. Tahana's sister Georgina is William Bell's mother. Justice John Priestley remanded Rogers for sentencing in February. Rogers is certain to be given life imprisonment. It is not known whether he will spend his time in Paremoremo prison, where Bell is serving 30 years for the 2001 RSA slayings.
The jury heard a domestic argument started during a drinking session with friends in the couple's garage. Two men were punched and kicked by Rogers, who has admitted charges of assaulting them. They fled the property when Rogers got the knife and threatened to kill them. He then pursued Tahana who tripped as she tried to flee. He knifed her 10 times as she lay face-down on the floor, one of the wounds to a depth of more than 20cm.
