Background
The Rotorua High Court was told psychological assessments and tests had been carried out on Pura and concluded that he is at high risk of serious violent reoffending within five years following release from prison. The Psychopathy Checklist Screening Version (PCL-SV) also predicted a high score of recidivism within a short period after release. Dr David Simpson a consultant psychologist pointed out his risk of further similar offending relates to personality factors including his severe substance abuse. Dr Simpson states unless he gets treatment for his violent propensity and lengthy substance abuse history his risk of reoffending will remain high
