Man jailed for threatening trial witness
A man who was acquitted of aggravated robbery by a jury last month was sentenced yesterday to 15 months jail by a Christchurch District Court judge for trying to frighten a witness into not giving evidence.
Dion James Plumridge, 26, unemployed, pleaded guilty to attempting to dissuade a witness by sending a series of increasingly threatening letters while he was in custody. The jury had been unaware of the charge. Phillipa Currie, prosecuting, said the witness was "crucial" to the case, and was influenced by the letters' "sinister" overtones.
Timaru Herald; February 3rd, 1998
A Temuka man yesterday admitted in the Timaru District Court to stealing a $17,000 Harley Davidson - only to return it to the owner for a $1700 reward.
When he appeared before Judge Edward Ryan, Dion James Plumridge, 26, unemployed, also admitted charges of burglary (two), theft, cultivating cannabis, assaulting a female (two) and intentional damage. He has indicated pleas of not guilty to additional charges of assault with intent to commit sexual violation, assault with a weapon and assaulting a female. The court heard that in early December, Plumridge entered a Timaru property, kicked open a garage door and stole 15 crayfish from a freezer.

Justice `sweet' for accused
A man accused of robbing an inner-city motel manageress at gunpoint gave a Nazi-style salute to Judge Murray Abbott and yelled ``Sweet'' after being found not guilty by a Christchurch District Court jury last night.
Dion James Plumridge, 26, unemployed, denied aggravated robbery for the April 18 incident last year, in which two masked men crept into the manageress's flat and forced her to reveal where she kept the cash. They fled with about $1000, three fake designer watches, and a bottle of expensive perfume.
