Background
From a Stuff article 29th May 2010
Three Christchurch men have been jailed following a stabbing in a fight between the occupants of two cars, which involved a knife and an axe. The incident, on Anzac Day last year, began with shouting between cars along Moorhouse Avenue in central Christchurch and ended later in a confrontation in Alexandra Street. The stabbing victim was in hospital for more than a week with a wound that scratched his liver.
In Christchurch District Court today, Kaelish Arlo Davies, 23, who wielded the knife, was sentenced to three years six months' prison after admitting the charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, the Christchurch Court News website reported. Corey Graham Nolan, 26, was sentenced to 14 months' prison on charges of intentional damage and assault with a weapon.
Alex Mehlhopt, 23, who smashed an axe through the car's window, sentenced to 20 months' prison for his role and for a Christmas morning burglary where he had raided food from the kitchen area of a holiday park. Judge Michael Crosbie said that by arming themselves the three had taken the hostility to another level.
