A man whose escape from Auckland 's Mt Eden Prison sparked a major manhunt will pay for his five days of freedom with an extra year on his jail sentence. Tommy Nikau, 26, and another prisoner escaped on April 28. Nikau had been remanded in custody after pleading guilty to the armed holdup of an Otara, South Auckland , bakery and had escaped in a bid to attend his son's fourth birthday. Yesterday in Auckland District Court Nikau was sentenced to five years' jail for the hold- up and a year for escaping.
