George Nicholls was drunk when he subjected an 88-year-old New Plymouth woman to a prolonged sexual attack.
Nicholls appeared in the New Plymouth District Court before Judge Allan Roberts yesterday charged with burglary, sexual violation, three charges of attempted sexual violation and robbery. The 40-year-old pleaded guilty to the charges.
The police summary of facts, which was not read out in court but the judge made available to the media, said Nicholls had broken into the woman's New Plymouth home about 2.25pm on May 8. His victim disturbed him as he rummaged through a bedside table in her room. Nicholls pushed the victim on to the couch, and at some stage dragged her back into the bedroom where the sexual offences occurred.
Nicholls, who had been demanding money throughout the attack, stole $80 from the woman's house before leaving. When police caught Nicholls he told them he could not remember the attack because he was drunk, but later admitted to what he had done. The woman received a bruised chest and ribs in the attack and spent six days in hospital. Judge Roberts remanded Nicholls in custody to reappear on October 31 for sentencing.
