Background
NZ Herald story here
The Court heard how the unprovoked attack occurred after Mr Harrison did no more than touch McLaughlin on the shoulder and perhaps mutter something about money. Offender claimed to have twice violently hit the victim, he then returned to the party not to have touched the victim again. However witnesses would give evidence that McLaughlin (who had been drinking) returned to the party at least two or three times continuing to kick and beat the victim, which the jury accepted.
