Background
NZ Herald story here and here. Injuries to the victims were horrific as detailed here
From the Dominion 15th December 2000
A WOMAN jailed for 16 years for ordering the violent beating of her former husband has had her prison sentence reduced by two years by the Court of Appeal. In a decision issued yesterday by Justice Penlington, the court found the sentence imposed on Patricia Mahutoto for the home- invasion beating in October last year was too high. Mahutoto was the instigator and procurer of the attack but the trial judge's starting point in sentencing her on charges of aggravated robbery and causing grievous bodily harm had been 18 months too high, the court said. It quashed her 16-year-sentence and imposed one of 14 years. Her appeal against conviction was dismissed.
